What is Zip?

Zip is a payment choice that allows you to purchase what you need* with the flexibility to pay over time. With Zip, you can split your purchases into smaller payments, whether you're shopping online or in a physical store. * We offer clear terms so you can always know what to expect and advance payment reminders to ensure you're on top of every payment.

Wide Acceptance

You can use Zip as a payment method pretty much anywhere* you want - online with the Zip app or at a physical store with the Zip app or Zip's physical card.

Financial Flexibility

With Zip, you can divide your purchase into smaller manageable payments. This flexibility helps especially when unexpected expenses arise.

Auto-payments & Reminders

Setting up automatic payments is seamless. Plus, once you set it up, we will send you advance payment reminders so you can manage expenses accordingly.

How do I sign up for Zip?

There are two ways you can apply for a Zip account: Download the Zip App OR Sign up during the checkout process on any of our Exclusive Partner's websites. Simply select Zip as your payment method and follow the prompts.

Important Information About Procedures for Opening a New Account To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account.

What this means for you: When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver's license or other identifying documents.

In order to sign up and use Zip, you must:

  • Live in the US
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a valid and verifiable mobile number
  • Use a US debit card to make a purchase
  • Have a Social Security Number
  • Have a valid US mailing address. We do not accept mailing (or billing) addresses that are APO, FPO, AE PO or PO Box
What payment methods are accepted?

Accepted payment methods are subject to Zip’s reasonable discretion. Zip may determine to discontinue the acceptance of any payment method at any time. Currently the following are accepted:

  • Debit cards (attached to bank accounts, including Venmo debit cards)
  • Most credit cards* (as long as they are not pre-paid)
  • Visa, MasterCard™, Discover, American Express® are accepted
  • Credit card acceptance is subject to your issuing bank permitting payment to Zip

Apple Pay*

*Apple Pay and credit cards can only be used to pay for active installments on your Zip orders. They cannot be used to make an initial purchase.

Payment methods that are not accepted:

  • Pre-paid or reloadable credit/debit cards (Example: cards that can be purchased from a retail store)
  • PayPal®
  • Venmo
  • Cash App Card
  • ACH bank transfers (Direct Debit)
  • Money orders, cash or cash equivalents
  • Capital One and Chase have made a decision to block their credit cards from being used to make Zip purchases
I've returned my order to the merchant. Where is my refund?

If you’ve returned your order to the merchant and are expecting a refund, here’s what you need to know:

The Merchant Initiates the Refund

Zip is the payment processor, but only the merchant can approve and initiate your refund. Please contact the merchant directly regarding a return or refund.

Refund Processing Timeline

Once the merchant processes your refund and notifies Zip, we will update your payment plan accordingly. Refunds can take up to 13 days to process, but may be completed sooner. The exact timing depends on how quickly the merchant submits the refund and your financial institution's processing times.

How Refunds Apply to Your Payments

Full Refunds:

  • If you have unpaid installments, they will be canceled.
  • If you have already made payments, the refunded amount will be returned to your original payment method.

Partial Refunds:

  • The refund will first be applied to any remaining unpaid installments.
  • If the refund exceeds the balance of unpaid installments, the remaining amount will be returned to your original payment method. 
Example: You purchased an item for $200 and paid $50 at the time of purchase. If you return $175 worth of merchandise: The merchant approves and processes the refund. The merchant notifies Zip of the refund and Zip begins processing the refund. Zip cancels your remaining three $50 installments (totaling $150). The remaining $25 is refunded to your original payment method.

If the merchant has confirmed your refund, but you haven’t received it within 13 days, please reach out to Zip Support with proof of your return so we can assist you.
